Happy Fourth of July: Barack Obama

The 4th of July is one of the most awaited holidays for Americans. The day is marked as Americans’ Independence Day. The country celebrates independence day by lighting up the fireworks, streets are painted red, white, and blue. The fourth of July celebrates the day the United States gained independence from Great Britain in 1776. The commissioner from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later which was a historic document enlisted by Thomas Jefferson.

From 1776 till today, July 4th has been celebrated as the Birth of American Independence with celebrations from fireworks, parades, concerts, and friends and family gatherings. Even though in the paper documents, 4th July 1776 is marked as Independence day but America is believed to not have its independence until 19th June 1865. It was that day when the last enslaved people got their freedom after federal troops arrived in Texas to carry out the order that all slaves be freed. Today the Fourth of July is a celebration of liberation, autonomy, and also freedom.

Barack Obama, the former president of the US even wished the citizens of the US on Twitter by expressing “Happy Fourth of July! As we celebrate today, let’s thank our armed forces and their families for their service to our country. And let’s recommit to fighting for our democracy- there’s still so much work to be done to perfect our union.”
