Ukraine The War in Russia: “The invaders in Mariupol aimed at the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters,” Ukrainian Ombudswoman Lyudmyla Denisova said.
Russian soldiers attacked a Red Cross station in the besieged and damaged southern Ukrainian port city of Mariupol on Wednesday, according to Kyiv, where officials have warned of a humanitarian calamity looming.
“The occupants in Mariupol aimed at the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters,” Ukrainian Ombudswoman Lyudmyla Denisova said on social media.
According to the statement, “enemy aircraft and artillery fired on a building marked with a red cross on a white background, signifying the presence of wounded individuals or civilian or humanitarian cargo.”
Aid organisations have repeatedly requested access to Mariupol, where conditions have been characterised as “hellish,” and Ukrainian officials have accused Russian troops of forcibly deporting civilians to Russia.
