Guru Gobind Singh : Know everything about him
Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the tenth Sikh Guru. His birth anniversary is celebrated as Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti. It is regarded as ‘Prakash Parv’.This day is observed in December or January every year considering the Nanak Shahi Calendar.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji: The tenth Sikh Guru
He was born as Gobind Rai at Patna Sahib in Patna on December 22,1666 .He ascended as the tenth Sikh leader at the age of 9 after his father Guru Tegh Bahadur was killed by Aurangzeb. So he was also called as Dashmesh Pita. Guru Gobind Ji learned several languages along with martial arts. He was also a spiritual master, a philosopher and a warrior .He has has greatly inspired the Sikh community . Sikh warrior community Khalsa was founded by him and was also credited with the introduction of the 5 Ks- Kanga, Kesh, Kachera, Kara, Kirpan. He wrote texts and preached the principles of Sikh community .His followers were given the title ‘Singh’ meaning lion. He left his earthly body on October 7, 1708.
To celebrate his Jayanti, Sikhs visit Gurudwaras where they offer prayers and sing devotional songs and people perform Seva for the poor people by holding langars.
