Melinda Gates, née Melinda Ann French, is an American businesswoman and philanthropist who co-founded the charity Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with her then-husband, Microsoft Corporation cofounder Bill Gates.
When she was in seventh grade, she was placed in an advanced arithmetic class, which piqued her interest in computers. She studied computer science and economics at Duke University after graduating from the Ursuline Academy (a Catholic girls’ secondary school) (B.S., 1986; M.B.A., 1987).
