The anti-war movie is a German one which is a deep-rooted depiction of life and death in the World War I trench. It is based on the 1928 novel by German author Erich Maria Remarque about the horrors of World War One from the perspective of a young German soldier.
The Netflix movie won Edward Berger the best director award and along with it, 6 other awards, best picture being one of them. The film was also acclaimed as an adapted screenplay, the film not in the English language, cinematography, sound, and original score.
In fact, it was up for 14 awards in total, making it one of the most recognized films not in the English language in BAFTA’s 76 years of history.
The success at the BAFTA also made way for the film into the Oscar, wherein it has been nominated for 9 Oscars. The Academy Awards ceremony is set to take place next month.
Apart from All Quiet on the Western Front, the Irish tragicomedy “The Banshees of Inisherin” and rock biopic “Elvis” both earned four awards at the gala.
