Mahakal priests demand withdrawal of Zomato ad featuring Hrithik Roshan
Two priests of the prominent Mahakal temple of Ujjain on Saturday have demanded that online food delivery company Zomato to withdraw an advertisement featuring Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan as it displeased Hindu sentiments.
In the advertisement, the Bang Bang actor says he felt like having a “thali” (food platter) in Ujjain so he ordered from “Mahakal”.
Moreover, the Mahakal temple of Lord Shiva in Ujjain is one of twelve ‘Jyotirlingas’ which attracts devotees from across the country.
According to the priests of the temple, named, Mahesh and Ashish said Zomato should withdraw the advertisement immediately and ask for an apology. Devotees are generally served ‘prasad’ (gift or grace of God) on a thali and the advertisement disturbs the feelings of Hindus.
The priests have also approached the Ujjain district collector, Ashish Singh, who is also the chairman of the Mahakal temple trust and sought action against the firm so that no one ever mocks the Hindu religion again, the priests claimed. Speaking to reporters, Singh termed the advertisement as “misleading”, saying that the temple offers free meals as ‘prasad’ and it is not sold.
Also, in a country like India, where religion plays a big part in the character of any name, each and everyone needs to be more cautious when a particular religion is involved in any matter, as it can totally shatter the emotion of any individual living.
