Buck Martinez completes final cancer treatment
Toronto Blue Jays broadcaster Buck Martinez has completed his final cancer treatment on Tuesday and is confident to join back the Blue Jays booth sometime after the all star break.
This news was shared by his co broadcasting partner Dan Shulman on Twitter with the photo of Martinez in a celebration mood at the hospital on Wednesday.
“It all went as well as it possibly could and (Martinez and his wife Arlene) are heading home now to begin rehab and recovery. Buck is very hopeful he will be able to rejoin us in the booth at some point post All-Star break, as soon as he is feeling strong enough.” Shulman wrote on Twitter
Martinez was diagnosed with cancer in mid-April and has been under treatment since then. He has been part of 17 seasons in the majors as catcher. After taking retirement, he started working as a broadcaster and a brief stint as manager for the Blue Jays for two years in 2000 and 2001.
“Everybody has been so supportive, I got a wonderful crew to work with here, folks, and I’m gonna go away for while, I’ve got cancer and I have to address that obviously.” Martinez said before his last game.
