Apple Could be Bringing a Much Cheaper Version of the Vision Pro Headset: Here’s What We Know
Apple at the company’s WWDC 2023 event had announced its most awaited and much-anticipated product, the Vision Pro headset and everyone was stunned by its unique design and how the device performed. However, what left everyone in shock was its price point of $3,499.
With this price point, Apple’s vision of bringing the product to a lot of its consumers won’t become a reality, but the brand is already working on a cheaper alternative, a cheaper Apple Vision headset or a Vision One headset that might hit the market in two years or so.
Here’s how Apple might be planning to bring out the cheaper version of the Vision Pro headset.
Apple Vision or Vision One Headset?
Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference 2023 event has begun and at the keynote conducted on the 5th of June 2023, the Cupertino-based company had made 17 new announcements of which the most exciting was the announcement of the Vision Pro headset.
The Vision Pro headset from Apple features the best technologies that are capable of offering its users the best-mixed reality experience but still, while the price was announced, everyone was left in shock. Apple’s Vision Pro headset is priced at $3,499 and this is about seven times more than the price of its strongest rival, Meta Quest 3 which starts at a price of $499.
Apple so far hasn’t been able to justify the price of the product and its comparison with that of the best smart TVs with surround sound, powerful computers, and high-resolution displays didn’t really make its consumers consider the product for its price.
Even if the product offers the best technologies and the best experience, such a price tag will not let Apple attain its vision which is the main reason why the brand is making a cheaper version of the device. The moniker “Vision Pro” itself suggests that a cheaper Vision headset or a Vision One headset is on its way, but won’t be making its way until late 2025 or maybe after.
So how is Apple planning to cut the price of the product?
If we look into Apple’s Vision Pro, there are three components that make it costly – its cameras and sensor array, the dual Apple silicon chipset, and its twin 4K micro OLED virtual reality displays. Apple can easily reduce the price of the cheaper variant by reducing the number of cameras and sensors, using an iPhone or Mac chipset, and also by using lower-quality display screens.
They’ll also be able to cut a few more dollars from its price tag by using a simpler headband design instead of the current sophisticated headband with speakers and by relying on an AirPods Pro for spatial audio. It is also likely that Apple won’t be compromising on a few of its specs to cut the price, like the EyeSight external screen and the eye-and-hand-tracking system.
Apple’s latest Vision Pro headset will be made available in the next nine months and it is also quite surprising to know that the brand is also in the works with a second-generation Vision Pro headset that is likely to arrive in markets sooner than the cheaper version.
