Apple, Samsung, and other smartphone companies met DoT and take decision to discontinue 4G smartphones above Rs 10,000 , check out full article to know

In India, 100 million customers have 5G capable phones but more than 350 million users have 3G or 4 G-only phones.

Representatives of mobile phone manufacturing companies met top government officials. And assured them that they would gradually discontinue the production of 4G phones priced at Rs 10,000 and will shift to 5G technology.

Top officials of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) held a meeting with the mobile operators and smartphone makers. And directed them to tune in to their 5G services with 5G smartphones within three months of a time frame.

Bharti Airtel has started rolling out 5G in 8 cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi. While Jio has started beta trials in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi.

The agenda of the meeting included a discussion about enabling the handsets of customers to be ready for 5G services.

The meeting was also attended by executives from companies such as Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung, and Google.

While Apple has said it will roll out 5G services via an over-the-air(OTA) update on all supported iPhone models by end of December. Samsung said it will release software updates by mid-November.

Google, has said that it will roll out the updates on its Pixel 6a, and Pixel 7 series smartphones soon.

This move will promote the adoption of 5G technology in India.

The intervention of the handsets manufacturers and telecom service providers to release software FOTA upgrades for all 5G handsets. It was also decided to prioritize the software upgrade for the early adoption of 5G in India.
