Get Redmi’s first-ever smartwatch for only $45
For the first time, Redmi, a budget sub-brand of Xiaomi has unveiled a smartwatch along with its upgraded Note 9 series, and its first entry turns out exactly what you would expect: a pretty uninspiring design at a pretty attractive price. The Redmi Watch has been launched in China for 299 yuan or approximately $45.
The watch has a squared design with a focus on “Nordic style” and minimalism. It has a 1.4-inch rectangular display with a 323 PPI pixel density and a curved glass. It will be available in black, white, and blue colour variants. The silicone strap comes in various colours such as black, white, blue, green, and pink. There’s a single button on the side of the watch, with everything else being handled by the touchscreen or the Mi Fit app on a paired smartphone.
At first look, it may seem like an Apple smartwatch, but thankfully the prices are nowhere comparable to them. Although it’s not as cheap as the $15 Redmi Smart Band, the Redmi Watch will retail for just 299 yuan ($45). Also, the watch will have a promotional launch price of 269 yuan ($41).
Some other notable specifics include NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, a heart rate monitor, and waterproofing up to 50m. Xiaomi claims that battery life will be good for up to 7 days, or 12 days if you use a power-saving mode. The UI and watch faces make heavy use of black backgrounds, not unlike the Apple Watch, though at this price you can’t expect an OLED display. The Watch is also pretty light at 35 grams.
The Watch features tracking for seven sports modes, including “outdoor running, indoor running, outdoor cycling, indoor cycling, walking, swimming in the pool, and free activities.” Activity is also monitored with round-the-clock heart rate monitoring and standing tracking. When you’re horizontal and in bed, the Watch also tracks the hours you’ve slept. Breathing training is also included.
The watch will go on sale in China on December 1st, but it may come to other markets — including the US — in a slightly tweaked form. Xiaomi has confirmed to Android Authority that it has no details regarding global availability at present. But it can be said that the watch will be made available soon with regards to the global market.
