Apple launches iPhone 16e with 6.1″ OLED, A18 chip, 48MP camera, Apple Intelligence and more

Earlier rumours hinted that the next iPhone SE model would be called the iPhone SE 4, and soon after, a tipster claimed that it would be named iPhone 16e. Now, Apple has made it official—the next SE model is indeed the iPhone 16e. This move makes it seem as if the iPhone 16 series has expanded, similar to how Samsung handles its FE series. If the iPhone 16e proves successful, it will be interesting to see if Apple follows this strategy with the iPhone 17 lineup as well.
Features and Specs
Apple has positioned the iPhone 16e as an affordable alternative with high-end capabilities. It features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, delivering vibrant colours and deep blacks. The device comes in matte white and black finishes, with a Ceramic Shield front cover and IP68-rated water and dust resistance.
Apple’s latest A18 chip powers the device, ensuring smooth performance and efficiency. Notably, the iPhone 16e introduces the Apple C1 modem, marking Apple’s first in-house cellular modem. Battery life has also improved significantly, lasting up to 12 hours longer than the iPhone SE. The device supports USB-C and wireless charging, making staying powered throughout the day easier.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 48MP Fusion camera, which integrates a 2x Telephoto lens for enhanced zoom. The phone also supports Night mode, Portrait mode, Smart HDR, and 4K Dolby Vision video recording. The front-facing TrueDepth camera ensures clear and detailed selfies with autofocus. Additionally, Apple has introduced Spatial Audio recording, enhancing video content with immersive sound.
AI and software improvements play a major role in the iPhone 16e. Apple has integrated Apple Intelligence, enabling features like the Clean Up tool to remove unwanted objects from photos. Users can also enjoy Image Playground and Genmoji for more creative expressions. Siri has become smarter, now featuring ChatGPT integration for advanced responses. The Action Button also receives an upgrade, offering instant recognition of objects and places.
On the connectivity front, the iPhone 16e includes 5G support and several satellite-based features, such as Messages, Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, and Find My via satellite. Crash Detection remains a key safety feature, automatically calling emergency services in case of a severe accident.
Running on iOS 18, the iPhone 16e brings customizable Home and Lock screens, improved iMessage with text effects and scheduled messages, RCS support for better communication with Android users, and new privacy features like app locking and hiding.
iPhone 16e Silicone Case and Accessories
To complement the iPhone 16e, Apple has launched iPhone 16e Silicone Cases in five colours: Winter Blue, Fuchsia, Lake Green, Black, and White. These cases offer a soft-touch feel with a microfiber lining inside for added protection. The covers are designed to fit snugly, ensuring easy access to the Action Button, camera, and charging port.
