iPhone 16 Pro Max tipped to feature 48MP IMX903 main camera
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 lineup in September this year. Renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has shared new details about the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s primary camera, following up on his earlier Weibo posts.
For those who don’t know, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 48-megapixel main sensor, the Sony IMX803. According to the latest leak, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will upgrade to a newer 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 sensor.
Digital Chat Station suggests the IMX903 will be a larger 1/1.4-inch sensor with improved low-light performance thanks to double-layer transistors, a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and Dual Pixel Gain (DCG) technology. The periscope telephoto lens will also be available in the camera setup, although specific details remain under wraps. The leak also hints at a curvier display for the iPhone 16 Pro Max compared to its predecessor.
Previous leaks from Digital Chat Station claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max camera bumps would combine glass and plastic elements. Interestingly, the iPhone 16 Pro might also gain the periscope telephoto lens currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As for the iPhone 16 Pro’s main camera, the 48-megapixel Sony IMX903 sensor remains a possibility.
While these leaks offer exciting insights into the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro lineup, it’s important to remember that they are still unconfirmed rumours. We’ll have to wait until Apple’s official announcement in September to know for sure what the new iPhones will bring.
