Meizu’s first foldable phone tipped to launch by 2023 end

Meizu has started teasing the Meizu 20 series of flagship phones in the Chinese market. Meizu’s Executive Vice President, Huang Zhipan, recently confirmed that the brand will enter the foldable market this year. Today, tipster Digital Chat Station revealed the launch timeframe for the device.

To recall, Meizu launched the Meizu 18, Meizu 18s, and Meizu 18s Pro flagship phones in 2021. The company did not launch any phones in 2022. In June 2022, the brand was acquired by Chinese car manufacturer Geely. This year, the brand will be back at launching new phones, starting with the Meizu 20 lineup in the Chinese market.

According to DCS, Meizu will launch its first foldable screen smartphone by the end of this year. There is no word on its form factor. So, it is unclear whether it will be a foldable device that folds horizontally or vertically.

The tipster added that Meizu will also launch tablets, earphones, and watches, among other products. He did not specifically mention whether any of these will launch this year.

Meizu recently confirmed the key specifications of the Meizu 20 Pro. The brand revealed that it will come with an E6 AMOLED display that offers a 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, a 5,000mAh battery, and 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. It will also come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, LPDDR5x RM, UFS 4.0 storage, and 50-megapixel quad rear cameras.
