Reports says Apple won’t have to pay for the defective 3nm chips, analyst denies

The market is to witness a major performance and efficiency leap with the introduction of 3nm A series and M series chips in Apple iPhone 15 and MacBook. These chips are being manufactured by TSMC chip manufacturing company, Apple is one of the major clients of this company. As per the recent report by The Information TSMC won’t be charging Apple for 3nm A17 Bionic chips for iPhone 15 Pro that are defective. Now this sounds a bit unusual because TSMC clients usually have to pay for the wafer and all of the dies it contains, including the defective ones.

As per the reports, Apple’s new A17 Bionic chip fabricated on TSMC’s 3nm process will deliver gains in computational and graphical performance thus allowing smartphones to load apps and functions faster than ever before. With such a major leap chip makers could have charged a significant amount but this agreement says a different story.

An Apple analyst denies such reports and says “And TSMC allocates most of the cost of defective chips to the selling price of each finished chip. The best evidence is that the cost of the new processor used in new iPhones increases significantly every year, and this year’s A17 is no exception.” He denies any such report around the agreement of not paying for the defective chip. As of now neither of the party has made any official announcement and can make it in the upcoming days. We will keep you updated in the upcoming days, till then stay tuned with The Tech Outlook.
