NITI Aayog Releases draft battery swapping policy now individuals can set up battery swapping station
The government thinks tank Niti Aayog unveiled a draught battery swapping policy on Thursday, stating that in the first phase, all metropolitan centers with populations over 40 lakh will be prioritized for the establishment of a battery swapping network. The central government announced intentions to create a Battery Swapping Policy and interoperability standards in Budget 2022-2023, with the goal of building and improving the efficiency of the battery swapping ecosystem and therefore encouraging EV adoption.
Given the importance of the two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicle segments in expanding cities, the Aayog said in its draught policy that all significant cities, such as state capitals, UT headquarters, and cities with populations over 5 lakh, will be included in the second phase.
In February 2022, Niti Aayog conducted an inter-ministerial debate to establish a rigorous and comprehensive battery switching policy framework, according to an official release.
A wide range of stakeholders representing battery swapping operators, battery manufacturers, vehicle OEMs, financial institutions, think tanks, and other specialists participated in a pre-draft stakeholder discussion. The draught is out for discussion until June 5, and Niti Aayog has requested feedback.
