Google Pixel Watch 2 to feature UWB, new chipset and a slightly larger battery

Google entered the segment of smartwatch last year with the launch of Google Pixel Watch last year. Now the company will soon be launching the successor of this smartwatch in a few months- Google Pixel Watch 2. Earlier there was no information regarding the specs of this upcoming watch was known but that’s not the case anymore.

Google Pixel Watch 2: Changes & Upgrades

In a recent report, Android Authority revealed some of the specs of the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 2. The Pixel Watch 2 is said to arrive with a new chipset- Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 that is said to improve the performance of the watch. The GPU performance is also improved with W5’s more modern Adreno 702.

This new chipset is built on Samsung’s 4nm process as most of 2021 and 2022 smartphone chips. The chip is also said to support brand-new low-power states such as Deep sleep and hibernation which would be improving the upcoming watch’s battery life. The most significant upgrade for this watch is said to be the inclusion of UWB.

This watch will be having NXP SR100T UWB (Ultra-wideband) module to enable new applications. The obvious use case is precise device finding. Google is also said to be working on improving its Find My Device network which will also support UWB devices, such as its first item party tracker which is codenamed Grogu. Another use case could be unlocking your car using a Digital car key. Google could also enable the watch to seamlessly transfer media playback to a docked  Pixel tablet or a future UWB-enabled Nest speaker.

To improve the Pixel Watch 2, Google is also reported to slightly increase the battery capacity- 306mAh which is 4% more than its predecessor.

Other than this it is assumed that the watch arrives with an updated display while it will run on Wear OS 4 based on Android 13. It will also have support for seamless updates which would be a first for any smartwatch. Pixel Watch 2 is being developed under two separate codenames- “Eos” is the LTE variant and “Aurora” only supports Wi-Fi. Not only this the publication has also shared a retail animation that is said to be shown on the demo units of Pixel Watch 2.

 

With all these upgrades and improvements, Pixel Watch 2 is now confirmed to arrive with a huge update over the Pixel Watch.
