Samsung Introduces BP and ECG Features on Galaxy Watch Series Devices: Certified by India’s Ministry of Health

The South Korean consumer electronics maker, Samsung, has introduced BP and ECG features for its Galaxy Watch Series devices. Updating the watch software, both these features can be used on the supported/eligible Galaxy smartwatches.

Here’s more about it.

Galaxy Watch Series – New BP and ECG Features

Samsung smartwatch devices of the Galaxy Watch 6 series, Galaxy Watch 5 series, and Galaxy Watch 4 series will be supporting these new BP and ECG features, and as suggested, on updating and setting up the features, users can access them on their eligible Galaxy smartwatch device. To add, Samsung’s smartwatch models are the only devices to support both ECG and BP features [Apple watches only support ECG, Fitbit and Garmin watches have ECG support only for certain models, and other basic watches like boAt, Fire-Boltt, and Noise do not support any].

The ECG feature will allow users to record, analyze, and save the data as PDFs. To measure, after setting up the feature, launch the ECG Monitor app on the device, rest your forearms on a table, and lightly touch the home button with a fingertip for 30 seconds. The ECG result will be displayed on the watch, and in detail on the connected phone.

Regarding the BP feature, the accurate heart rate monitor will help in measuring blood pressure and pulse waves. Regular calibration with a BP device is also said to be essential to enhance the accuracy. To get a proper measurement, it has to be recorded three times and should be re-calibrated every four weeks. To use the feature, open the Samsung Health Monitor app, and after finishing the initial setup, select the blood pressure option and follow the necessary information to calibrate. While measuring, sit still for 20 seconds.

Keep in mind, that the features are not capable of diagnosing cardiac conditions, hypertension, or even looking for signs of heart attacks. These features are also not meant to replace diagnosis methods or treatment, and users shouldn’t change their medicine dosage without taking proper advice. The ECG feature is not recommended to be used on a person younger than 22 years and is not to be used while in any physical activities. For security reasons, the Galaxy watch should also be paired via Bluetooth in a private setting only.

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization(CDSCO) – Ministry of Health, India has also certified the new Galaxy Watch Series features.
