Sony’s new mixed reality headset for creators unveiled at CES 2024

Sony recently unveiled its new mixed reality headset for the creators at CES 2024. The headset and controller combo is aimed to provide an immersive content creation experience to the creators. It features a high-resolution 4K OLED display powered by Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform.

As per Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida, the new headset emphasizes its ability to “expand the creation space by overlaying virtual objects into physical spaces”. And that has been tried to achieve by replacing the joysticks with a finger-worn ring and a handheld pointer. It perfectly allows creators to manipulate the virtual objects as if they are present in a room.

Its demo showed users manipulating virtual objects with this. It also allows creators to switch easily between virtual and physical space by flipping the front part of the headset. Its “proprietary rendering technology” is said to allow creators for “real-time, high-definition and realistic rendering of textures of 3D objects and facial expressions of human characters.”

Sony is undoubtedly not new to the world of 3D creation but the headset has raised the bar for other companies who are working in this domain. As of now, the company has not made any announcement regarding the release and price of this headset.
