Intending to buy the PS 5 console before its official release in India? Don’t do so… Here’s why

The Play Station 5 next-gen console is yet to be launched in India. While the official prices have been disclosed (standard version will come at Rs 49,990 and the Digital Edition will be priced at Rs 39,990), there is no release date yet. The console has been released in some markets across the world on November 12, but its release in India is still uncertain.

This has lead to people buying the console from unauthorized retailers, who have imported the console from other markets. But according to a report this next-gen console would not be covered under any warranty if purchased from an unauthorized source before its official release in India.

Also, according to a report by MensXP, the PS 5 consoles are currently selling at a premium in India, some costing upwards of Rs 90,000, without any valid warranty.

MensXP also reached out to a Sony Play Station representative who said, “We advise our customers to check for the official Sony India Warranty card at the time of purchase to avail warranty benefits within India and in this context, it is important to note that PlayStation products marketed by Sony India are certified based on India safety standards stipulated by BIS”.

The sole intent of Sony India is that customers should purchase consoles, that come with the official Sony India warranty card. Sony will only be willing to repair or replace consoles that have an Indian warranty card, in case any issue arises in the future. Therefore to avail, the warranty and service benefits in India the console has to have a valid Sony India warranty card.

The Indian retail units are also certified based on India safety standards stipulated by Bureau of Indian Standards(BIS) which will not be the case for consoles that have been imported from other markets.

Many fans and Youtubers decided to jump the queue and have purchased the consoles imported from other countries, but these would not have a valid warranty in India.

So the best suggestion would be to wait for the official release of the PS 5 console and have a valid warranty card.
