Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders in US postponed due to new global tariffs introduced by Trump

This week, on Wednesday, Nintendo revealed the much-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 gaming console. The company revealed a few basic information related to the device. The new device is said to have better graphics and audio than its predecessor, Switch 1, and a chat button allowing players to speak to each other while playing. The device was officially confirmed to be released on 5th June, while the pre-orders were said to start from 9th April.

Well, the US customers may have to wait a bit more for the pre-orders to start. This is because Nintendo has postponed the pre-orders in the US due to new global tariffs introduced by US President Donald Trump. On the same day when Nintendo announced the release date for Switch 2, the US President announced sweeping new global tariffs under which Japan, where the gaming company is based, has been hit with a 24% tariff.

As per the official statement by Nintendo, pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the US will not start from 9th April in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. The company will update about the pre-order date in the US at a later date, though it is clarified that the launch date (June 5) remains unchanged

Let’s see whether the company bears the new tariffs’ cost or passes it onto the US consumers. Stay tuned with The Tech Outlook for more updates.
