Sony’s “Access Controller” will have customised hardware and software for gamers with special need
Ahead of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Sony has shared new images and details of the Access Controller for PS5. Earlier it emerged when the company shared its information in January under the name “Project Leonardo.” Microsoft released a similar Xbox Adaptive Controller way back in 2018 which makes Sony late but with this announcement, it’s getting ready to compete with it.
Hardware customization
The design team seems to have worked best in making gaming accessible to all with this new controller. It comes with analog stick caps which can be standard, dome, and ball stick caps. It has overhang button caps, pillow button caps, wide flat button caps, and curve button caps. As per the preference and comfort these button caps can be placed around the controller. The Access controller can be placed on a flat surface or mounted on a tripod.
The analog stick and controller distance can also be changed.
Software customization
Players can easily select the orientation for the Access Controller, map different inputs to the various buttons, and can even map two different inputs onto the same button.
These game profiles can be changed and saved for different games. This controller can be used together allowing two users to play collaboratively. Players can also set the sensitivity of input and dead zones. A toggle mode will let you decide a complex behavior of a button.
All the aforementioned information about the Access Controller of PS5 has been shared by the PlayStation blog page where it has also shared a video. The team discussed in the video how they felt that a certain member has some special needs which Sony not only took into consideration but also came with a result.
