MediaTek Launched its Latest Dimensity 9400 Chipset: First 3nm Flagship Chipset for Android Smartphones

The leading Taiwanese semiconductor company, MediaTek, has finally unveiled its Dimensity 9400 flagship chipset as confirmed. Besides being the first 3nm flagship chipset for Android, it is also the brand’s second ‘All Big Core’ chipset and outperforms all Qualcomm chipsets currently available in market.

Check out more about its specs and features below.

MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Chipset Unveiled

The newly unveiled MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, as mentioned, is made using four ultra-large cores and big cores, and follows the same ‘All Big Core’ architecture style that we previously saw in the Dimensity 9300 chipset. This time, the Dimensity 9400 carries an architecture consisting of a Cortex-X925 core, three Cortext-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. [While being the first flagship chipset for Android devices made using the 3nm process technology, Apple had acquired the title for ‘the first 3nm chipset’ with its A17 Pro a year back. To add, Apple’s A18 series chipsets also used the 3nm process technology.]

Regarding the performance and power efficiency, MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chipset has shown 35% single-core (3055 points on Geekbench 6.2) and 28% multi-core (9600 points on Geekbench 6.2) improved performance scores, and 40% power efficiency when compared with its predecessor. Under normal temperature environments, the Dimensity 9400 chipset also is able to touch AnTuTu scores of 3 million points too. Notably, the LPDDR5X memory support with 10.7GB/s speed certainly adds to the performance.

The Immortalis-G925 GPU and the MediaTek 8th Gen NPU are also integrated on to the flagship chipset. The brand claims that the GPU will provide 41% faster peak performance as well as 40% faster ray-tracing performance. Support for Gemini Nano AI model and AI Agentic Engine further will assist the chipset for handling many AI processes and capabilities. An updated 5G modem with a speed of up to 7GB/s and a new 4nm Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chipset having lower power consumption are also part of the chipset.

Finally, the Dimensity 9400 chipset of MediaTek will be able to support WQHD+ display with up to 180Hz refresh rate, along with the MIPI support for triple foldable displays. 8K 60fps 10-bit video capturing capability with full range HDR zoom can also be achieved with MediaTek’s latest chipset.

MediaTek with its launch of the Dimensity 9400 chipset has also announced that the first smartphone with the brand’s latest flagship chip will be coming to market in Q4 2024. So far, reportedly, both the Vivo X200 series and OPPO Find X8 series are said to feature this chipset and both the series will be officially released this month in October 2024.

To add, Qualcomm will also be launching its new flagship chipset later this month, on the 22nd of October 2024, and it is expected to compete with MediaTek’s latest Dimensity chipset in terms of performance, power efficiency, and AI capabilities.
