Samsung Launches 990 EVO Plus SSD with 7,250 MB/s Read Speeds and 4TB Capacity
Samsung Electronics has announced the release of its new solid-state drive (SSD), the 990 EVO Plus, adding to its lineup of SSD products. This latest model features PCIe 4.0 support and uses the company’s latest NAND technology. The 990 EVO Plus is designed for consumers seeking improved performance and power efficiency in their PCs. According to Samsung, the drive is optimised for various applications, including gaming, business use, and creative endeavours. This release comes as demand for high-performance storage solutions continues to grow, driven by increasing data requirements for social media, high-quality video streaming, and other data-intensive activities.
Performance and Efficiency
The 990 EVO Plus offers the following specifications:
- Sequential read speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s
- Write speeds reaching 6,300 MB/s
- 50% faster than the previous 990 EVO model
- 73% improvement in power efficiency compared to its predecessor
These improvements are due to Samsung’s 8th generation V-NAND technology and a 5-nanometre controller. The SSD includes a nickel-coated heat shield for temperature management.
Hangu Sohn, Vice President of Memory Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics, said, “The 990 EVO Plus is built for laptop and desktop PC users seeking faster processing speeds and expanded storage capacity.”
Capacity and Features
Samsung has introduced a 4TB model in the 990 EVO Plus range. This model has random read and write speeds of 1,050K IOPS and 1,400K IOPS, respectively.
The drive uses Samsung’s TurboWrite 2.0 technology. All 990 EVO Plus models are compatible with Samsung Magician software, which provides optimisation tools, data migration assistance, and drive health monitoring.
