Snapdragon collaborates with leading smartphone brands like Xiaomi , OPPO , Vivo , Nothing , Moto , Honor for Snapdragon Satellite Connectivity
MWC 2023 is all about new devices being launched , new technologies developed and new innovations being introduced . Well when all the top leading companies are coming up with their innovations and ideas at this event , Qualcomm Technologies has also showcased their technology roadmap .
Qualcomm has always tried to enable a world where everything and everyone can be intelligently connected . Qualcomm has recently unveiled Snapdragon Satellite which is the world’s first satellite based two-way capable messaging solution for smartphones built into Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform . On February 27,2023 the company has announced it’s collaboration with Honor , Motorola , Nothing , OPPO , Vivo and Xiaomi to develop smartphones with satellite communication capabilities leveraging Snapdragon Satellite .
According to a press note released by the company , Francesco Grilli , vice president of product management , Qualcomm Technologies Inc. said ,” Our long standing relationships with Honor , Motorola , Nothing , OPPO , Vivo , Xiaomi are rooted in innovations and delivering exceptional connectivity experience to consumers . By incorporating Snapdragon Satellite into next-generation devices , our partners will be able to offer satellite messaging capabilities thanks to a mature and commercially available global LEO constellation , which can allow subscribers around the world to communicate outdoors with emergency service providers , as well as family and friends .”
Satellite based communications can send and receive data in remote or rural regions where other telecommunications networks are not available . Snapdragon satellite will be available across all upcoming 5G Modem-RF systems and Snapdragon Mobile platform tiers ( from 8 to 4 tier) as the ecosystem matures . The satellite offers global coverage from pole to pole and can support two-way messaging for emergency use , SMS texting and other messaging applications .
The satellite supports 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks and will enable premium Android smartphones to connect and communicate without Internet connectivity . Though Qualcomm has not revealed that exactly when the smartphones developed with Satellite communications capabilities will arrive .
