Apple’s Emergency SOS service extended for another free year of accessibility for existing iPhone 14 users
Imagine being caught up in an emergency and you don’t have access to any cellular or Wi-Fi network. A nightmare, isn’t it?
Apple Inc. was mindful enough to present an emergency SOS service last year, exactly on this date. The Emergency SOS launched by Apple operates through satellite.
In the latest developments, Apple has extended the Emergency SOS service for an additional free year for existing iPhone 14 users. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple Inc. took to the social media platform X and updated about the same as well.
A year ago today, we launched Emergency SOS via satellite. Today, we’re extending free access to this lifesaving technology for existing iPhone 14 users for another year. https://t.co/qtEad9JN35

On 15 November 2022, Apple made the Emergency SOS service live for iPhone 14 users in Canada and the U.S.A. Currently, the service is also available on the iPhone 15 lineup in up to 16 countries.
Apple’s Emergency SOS immensely contributed to mankind’s safety in the last year of its functioning. From lost hikers in the far Apennine Mountains in Italy to a man trapped 400 feet down a cliff with his car in Los Angeles, Apple’s Emergency SOS service users managed to reach out to saviors in impossible situations.
Apple seems dedicated to providing safety facilities for its users, as they have introduced other services as well in the same line.
Recently, Apple introduced the Roadside Assistance which also functions via satellite and has the capability of connecting users to AAA. Apple’s ‘Find My’ app enables users to share their location via satellite. The ‘Crash Detection’ app by Apple can detect severe car crashes and automatically dial emergency services. ‘Check In’ by Apple automatically notifies friends and families when a user reaches a destination safely. Last but not least, with the use of Apple’s ‘Health App’, a user can set up their Medical ID, which allows first responders to have access to critical medical information from the Lock Screen without any password.
