Google Brings Two New Updates to Find My Device: Will Warn About Unknown Trackers
Google at the I/O developer conference 2023 keynote held on Wednesday, 10th of May has introduced two new updates that they are planning to bring to its Find My Device.
Read more about the update below.
Google Find My Device Update
Google has introduced two new updates to its Find My Device and the first and most important among them is the unknown tracker alerts.
Find My Device after the update will start alerting its users if an unknown device such as an Apple AirTag or a Tile device owned or registered by other users is seen following them. Stalking using such trackers is starting to become a common issue and reports of the Apple AirTag device being used as a stalking device were shared before, following which Apple had taken necessary steps to prevent it. Earlier this month, Google and Apple had also partnered together to address this issue.
The update will be arriving later this summer but Google hasn’t given an exact date regarding when it can be expected.
Unknown tracker alerts is an upcoming @Android feature where your phone alerts you *and* locates unfamiliar tracking tags that have been separated from their owners and are seen moving with you. Look out for more on this later this year. #GoogleIO pic.twitter.com/o2MjuETYXL

The second update that Google will be introducing to Find My Device is the support to find and locate other devices of its users including headphones, tablets, smartwatches, and other such devices, even when they are offline. Users will be able to play a sound on the device or even see the location of the device, enabling them to easily track or find it.
Just like the unknown tracker alert, this update is also supposed to arrive later this summer.
Keeping track of devices can be hard. Later this year, Find My Device will help locate products other than your phone, like headphones, tablets, & more. PSA: The Find My Device network ensures that location data is encrypted, so your info is for your eyes only. #GoogleIO pic.twitter.com/4XKLo1KVsD

Google has also mentioned that it will also be providing support for Bluetooth trackers from other brands like Pebblebee, Tile, and Chipolo along with support for certain audio devices including Google’s own Pixel Buds and headphones from JBL and Sony.
