Google is preparing to make changes in its rules for India. They’ve been making some changes to Android already. They are to change their policy dealing with apps and their digital ecosystem so that Android users can get more choices to explore competing apps.
“We take our commitment to comply with local laws and regulations in India seriously. The CCI’s recent directives for Android and Play require us to make significant changes for India, and today we’ve informed the CCI of how we will be complying with their directives,” Google said in a blog post, reported the Times of India.
Users will be able to customize their devices to suit their preferences. The major changes include:-
- There will be no more google pre-installed Google apps on new phones
- You’ll give to use the search engine of your choice
- Sideloading of apps
- Third-party billing choices
- Allowing forked variants of Android
These changes have been triggered by the fine of ₹2,273 Crores, imposed on them by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). Google failed to get any relief from the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and the Supreme Court.
With the changes being imposed now, we’ve come to the realization of how Google actually preferred itself in our devices. People will not be able to choose their own search engines and install their own apps unlike before when there were default and unchangeable Google apps and features.
