Microsoft abolishes the decision to block office macros by default

Microsoft is all set to abolish its decision to adopt a default stance that will prevent macros origin from the internet to run in the office unless given permission. While Microsoft earlier announced that it had blocked VBA macros on the documents that can be downloaded by default. Redmond further stated that it will roll out this change based on the feedback until any further notice.

On Thursday the company notified admins in the Microsoft 365 message center that based on the feedback, the company will roll back the change from the current channel.

The possibility of such attacks is hardly new. The infamous Melissa virus run wildly across the world’s mail serves in 1999. Things got even worse over the years, so in 2016 Microsoft boosted the ante with a tool that allowed admins to define the time and place where the macros were allowed to run. Microsoft even stopped running macros without even asking their own customers. The problem kept worsening and in February this year, Microsoft decided to block macros by default in Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word and further explained that the change that is made in the office will keep more users secured and safe and is even expected to keep more users safe including home users and the information workers in managed organizations.
