New YouTube fan account policies restricts poser accounts
Fan accounts will have to make it obvious in titles and handles that they are fan accounts
YouTube has been working on bringing in new enhancements and updates to its platform to improve convenience and functionality on the platform. In the latest developments, YouTube has now updated that, starting from August 21, 2023, fan channels have to make it obvious in their titles or handles that they are fan channels.
This new policy for YouTube fan channels comes in as a measure to restrict fan channels from impersonating original channels.
Prior to this, YouTube recently updated some of its YouTube Partner Program policies, which you can check here.
Coming back to the new YouTube fan channel policy, YouTube announced on their community page some new, “Updates to YouTube Policies for Fan Channels”. (https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/222141263/updates-to-youtube-policies-for-fan-channels?hl=en) This introduces new guidelines on impersonation on the popular streaming platform.
The new policies will restrict fan channels from copying logos, content, or other intellectual properties, which belong to the original creator, artist, or entity.
The new policy will remove channels that re-upload other people’s content and also copies logos, watermarks, banners, etc. If you have a fan account, you won’t be able to pose as another’s channel.
This new effort will ensure that the efforts of the original video creators won’t go in vain. It often happens that viewers end up on fake channels and views and subscribers are gained by the poser accounts instead of the original accounts.
