Snapdragon 888 vs MediaTek Dimensity 8200 vs Snapdragon 870: Here’s the Most Efficient Chipset

Let’s compare and find out the best and most efficient chipset among the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, MediaTek Dimensity 8200 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipsets

Snapdragon 888 vs MediaTekDimensity 8200 vs Snapdragon 870

First, let’s look at each of the chipsets individually.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 888

Qualcomm Snapdragon 888  is an 8-core chipset and is manufactured with 5 nm process technology.

The chipset has a core configuration of 1 + 3 + 4 cores. The architecture includes a Kryo 680 Prime (Cortex-X1) core which runs at 2.84 GHz, three Kryo 680 Gold (Cortex-A78) cores that run at 2.42 GHz, and four Kryo 680 Silver (Cortex-A55) cores which run at 1.8 GHz.

In GeekBench 5 the chipset scored a single-core score of 1124 points and a multi-core score of 3666 points

MediaTek Dimensity 8200

The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 is also an 8-core chipset made using 4 nm process technology.

The Dimensity 8200 chipset has the same core configuration of 1 + 3 + 4 cores. The architecture includes a Cortex A78 core which has a clock speed of 3.1GHz, three Cortex A78 cores which run at 3.0GHz, and four Cortex A55 cores which have a clock speed of 2.0GHz.

In GeekBench 5 the chipset scored a single-core score of 985 points and a multi-core score of 4193 points

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset is an 8-core chipset as well with the same core configuration of 1 + 3 + 4 cores. The device uses a 7 nm process technology. The chipset’s architecture includes a Kryo 585 Prime (Cortex-A77) core running at 3.2GHz, three Kryo 585 Gold (Cortex-A77) cores which have a clock speed of 2.42GHz and four Kryo 585 Silver (Cortex-A55) cores which operates at a clock speed of 1.8GHz.

So comparing all three chipsets one thing is very clear, all the chipsets use a 1 + 3 + 4 core configuration.

The MediatTek Dimensity 8200 chipsets include four Cortex A78 cores which have a much better clock speed when compared to the other two chipsets.

The four A55 cores in the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset also have a clock speed of 2.0GHz which is higher than the A55 cores present in the Snapdragon 888 and the Snapdragon 870 which runs at 1.8GHz.

However, the Snapdragon 888 includes an X1 core making it more powerful than the Dimensity 8200 chipset.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8200, even if it is not the most powerful chipset among the three, it is the most efficient chipset of all the three chipsets under comparison.

The first reason is that the chipset uses a 4nm processing technology while the Snapdragon 870 chipset and the Snapdragon 888 use 7nm and 5nm processing technology making the Dimensity 8200 much more efficient than the two.

Even if the Snapdragon 888 has the X1 core which makes it the most powerful, it is what makes it the least efficient and the Dimensity 8200 chipset lacks it.

All these two reasons make the Dimensity 8200 chipset the best and most efficient chipset than the Snapdragon 888 and the Snapdragon 870 chipsets.
