VPN By Google One Will Be Replaced With VPN By Google; Will Be Rolled Out As A Software Update

As officially announced by Google, VPN by Google One will be discontinued starting from June 20th but as per the latest report by @9to5Google, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a and Fold users can continue using VPN on their devices as Google will be rolling it out via a new software update.

Earlier Pixel 8 and newer devices offered a built-in VPN as part of their system settings. Now after VPN by Google One is removed from the Google One app, Pixel 7 series users and Pixel Fold users will be able to use this function after installing a software update. The latest version of Pixel VPN by Google will be rolling out as a Play Store update.

In this new version, you can get the key icon in the status bar at the right for this service. The update also renamed VPN by Google One to just VPN by Google. Earlier the app/service showed an icon with “1” but now a blue shield icon is introduced with “G” at the center. If you’re on Android 14 QPR2 and haven’t received the QPR3/June Feature Drop, users can directly install it from the Google Play listing.

“Open” it from the app listing to set it up, including enabling notifications and mobile network usage. Afterwards, users have to manually add the new Quick Settings Tile and remove the old one from the OS.
