WhatsApp’s New Chat Lock feature Coming Soon To Users

Meta announces that WhatsApp adds a new feature to its security with a lock that will hide specific conversations. This chat lock will remove a conversation from the regular inbox of WhatsApp to a new folder.

This new folder can be locked by a separate password or biometric, such as facial recognition or a fingerprint, rather than the app’s normal security.

Users can already set up a password or a biometric lock normally on any smartphone. But any person who has access to your chats before it locks itself can see everything with their eyes.

With this new lock, users can add more security to any conversations they like and can also hide notifications for the intended conversation.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive officer, confirmed this feature in a Facebook post. “New locked chats in WhatsApp make your conversations more private. They’re hidden in a password-protected folder and notifications won’t show sender or message content”- he said.

To enable the chat lock on WhatsApp, go to the specific chat you would like to lock, and click on the DP (Display Picture), Chat Lock will appear as a new option right below the disappearing message menu enable Chat Lock and authenticate using your phone password or biometrics.

End-to-end encryption, encrypted chat backup, disappearing messages, screenshot blocking, and the ability to control who can access the last seen status, etc. are the already existing security and privacy-centric features of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp is an internationally available free-ware, cross-platform messaging service owned by the US tech conglomerate, Meta. This messaging application is convenient to send and receive, text and voice messages, links, files, and multimedia.
