xAI Officially Launches its Grok 3 AI Model: ‘Smartest AI on Earth’

At the recently conducted X live launch, Elon Musk led xAI unveiled its latest Grok 3 foundational model (with Grok 3 and Grok 3-mini) for its chatbot that goes by the same name, and which was earlier teased as the ‘Smartest AI on Earth‘. The newest version is much more improved when compared with the previous one and in benchmarks, it is claimed to have scored higher than its major competitors.
Here’s more about it.
Grok 3 Officially Launched
Just like most of its product launches, xAI has now officially unveiled its Grok 3 model via a live X meeting or demo with Elon Musk and three other members from the development team. As pointed out by Musk himself at the beginning of the meeting, the word ‘Grok’ stands for ‘fully and profoundly understanding something’ (from Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein), and this has been the vision of the brand so far as suggested.
To begin with, in the past 17 months from its inception, Grok has achieved a significant and faster growth when comparing it with one of its major competitor products (OpenAI’s ChatGPT), and speaking of its key features, the latest Grok 3 has had 10x more training than all the current best models (using the Colossus supercomputer with 200,000 massive cluster of GPUs), has reasoning capabilities, and has the next frontier agents. As mentioned above, in Math, Science, and coding benchmarks, Grok 3 has also attained better results than Gemini-2 Pro, DeepSeek-V3, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and GPT-4o. Additionally, a detailed chain of thoughts with a certain level of obscurity is also part of it, similar to what we have seen on DeepSeek R1 and ChatGPT 03 mini. Deep Search is again another similar and new feature introduced.
As of now, all these latest features have been brought and made available to the Premium Plus members on X, and they will be able to access it by updating the X app. A separate subscription for Grok has also been announced, which is called ‘SuperGrok’. Additionally, a new website has been announced along with this for Grok at ‘Grok.com‘. Also, the Grok 3 update will be available to iOS users and for Android users, that app is available for pre-registration now.
At the live launch event on X, Elon Musk also noted that at first, these features would be beta-like and may carry some imperfections, however, day by day, users will be able to find noticeable improvements, and in a week, a more polished version would be available. Voice interaction capability will also be brought to it, so that users can be more conversational.
