New FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) Coming
AMD had first introduced its FidelityFX Super Resolution 1.0 (FSR 1.0) back in 2021 as an answer to NVIDIA’s DLSS, and later in early 2022, the brand unveiled its FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 (FSR 2.0). It was in the month of September 2023 that AMD launched its latest FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.0 (FSR 3.0).
In the same month this year, NVIDIA, AMD’s rival, had brought out the DLSS 3.5, before which, the DLSS 2.0, DLSS, 1.9, and DLSS 1.0, have also been announced in April 2020, August 2019, and February 2019, respectively.
Speaking of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), it is an open source spatial up-scaler which improves gaming performance and renders game frames at a lower resolution, reducing the load for the graphics hardware, and then will subsequently increase it. It should be noted that FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) doesn’t require any sort of dedicated hardware and it does not make use of machine learning, and is compatible with GeForce and Radeon graphics cards.
It is the tipster @Tech_Reve who has now exclusively revealed that AMD, Samsung, and Qualcomm have joined their hands together to bring out a new FidelityFX Super Resolution, with the aim of competing with NVIDIA’s DLSS. He has further also added that this upcoming FidelityFX Super Resolution technology will be used on Samsung’s Galaxy devices in the future.
