Anonymous collective threatens China against invading Taiwan

In the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Anonymous took a break from the cyberwar in Russia and attacked the Chengdu Chinese Communist Party (CCP) website, urging Beijing not to “attempt anything stupid against Taiwan.” As per Taiwan News, the group hacked the website of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference’s Chengdu Pidu District Committee on Monday (May 2).

Anonymous added their emblem, followed by a photo of a guy wearing a black hoodie and a Guy Fawkes mask, on a new HTML page produced on the website. The meme “Taiwan Numbah Wan!” occurs, which is a reference to a famous phrase made by video game streamer “AngryPug” in 2015 during a match in the computer game “H1Z1” to annoy Chinese streamer “Em0.” Taiwan’s flag is shown underneath the slogan, followed by its national insignia, according to Taiwan News.

The hacker collective then said that it will take a pause from its cyberwar on Russia to caution China not to do something stupid against Taiwan. It stated that it has launched several attacks on the Russian government and state-run media websites, industrial control systems, and hundreds of surveillance cameras since the Russian invasion began. It indicated a “souvenir” that Anonymous member “Cyber Anakin” had left for China after a five-day hack into Chinese computer systems, including nuclear power plant interfaces.

According to Taiwan News, the damaged page includes flags of Tibet, Taiwan, East Turkestan, Southern Mongolia, and Black Bauhinia, as well as a monument for Li Wenliang and other noteworthy COVID victims. The defaced CCP website shortly went offline, and the site is still down as of writing. The Internet Archive Wayback Machine has an archived version of the defacement.

Anonymous has frequently assaulted the Kremlin’s digital facilities since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24. Hackers have vowed to assault the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning’s computer systems, claiming that it will follow the course of the recently sinking Russian cruiser Moskva after an anticipated missile attack from Ukraine.
