According to the report, 92 percent of SMBs expect cloud usage to increase in 2021

According to a new report from DigitalOcean Holdings, Inc., 92 percent of small and medium businesses (SMBs) who reported an increase in cloud usage during the peak of the pandemic said their cloud usage continued to increase in 2021, indicating that there is no slowdown in terms of digital acceleration and cloud adoption.

“Our approach to the cloud is centred on simplicity, community, support, open source, and cost-effectiveness—developers and SMBs want a different approach to the cloud that fits their needs.” “Yancey Spruill, CEO of DigitalOcean, remarked. “The cloud offers developers and small businesses a huge chance to test their ideas and grow their enterprises, and it’s more critical than ever that they have access to simple cloud solutions that match their specific demands.””

The report’s major findings show that SMBs demand simplicity from their cloud providers at a reasonable price. When it comes to maintaining cloud solutions, SMBs of all types have fewer technical employees than businesses and are more likely to have several objectives. The CEO, president, or even the owner of a typical SMB is often tasked with administering cloud services, according to this survey. Traditional SMBs mentioned cost (19%), technical training and education (13%), and time necessary to administer services (12%) as barriers to cloud adoption, in addition to a lack of technical employees.

Traditional SMBs also have a knowledge gap when it comes to cloud solutions, thus their cloud configurations are less complicated than those of tech-focused SMBs and corporations. For example, 48% of typical SMB respondents have never heard of the word “cloud.” “Compared to the 5% of respondents from businesses who have never heard of the term “native,” Meanwhile, 56% of traditional SMB respondents are unfamiliar with the term “digital.” “Compared to the 18% of respondents from businesses that are unfamiliar with the phrase “native,”

82 percent of conventional SMBs, 82 percent of tech SMBs, and 92 percent of businesses who reported higher cloud usage in 2020 as a result of covid-driven digital acceleration stated their cloud usage has increased this year. The cloud, according to 69% of respondents, has aided their company’s recovery from the current pandemic.

Enterprises and tech-focused SMBs were more likely than conventional SMBs to be cloud-native, with 64% of enterprises, 58 percent of tech-focused SMBs, and 35% of traditional SMBs claiming to be cloud-native. Cloud-native firms are also more likely than non-cloud native organizations to consider themselves startups, to find hiring and training people on technological solutions a higher challenge, and to report that the complexity of cloud solutions is a greater challenge.
