Air India becomes first Asian airline to support Apple AirTag for lost baggage tracking

Air India has become the first airline in Asia to offer a handy new feature that could make losing your luggage a little less stressful. The airline now supports Apple AirTag integration, allowing iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to track their checked-in bags using Apple’s Find My app—alongside Air India’s own app and website.
This means if you’ve placed an AirTag inside your suitcase and it doesn’t show up at your destination, you can now share its live location with Air India to help them reunite you with your bag more quickly.
Note: You’ll need to have your own Apple AirTag and be using a device running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later. This feature is not available for Android users, as AirTags only work with Apple products.
A smart step toward stress-free travel
Air India handles over 100 million pieces of baggage each year, and while more than 99.6% arrive with the passenger, delays can still happen due to airport systems or flight connections.
With this new feature, passengers with Apple devices can now take advantage of real-time location sharing to help the airline find and return misplaced bags faster.
How it works
If your bag goes missing:
- Report it: Go to the Air India baggage counter at the airport. A staff member will help you file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
- Open the Find My app: On your Apple device, locate your AirTag and generate a ‘Share Item Location’ link.
- Submit the link:
- Via the Air India mobile app: Go to Customer Support Portal → Baggage → Lost and Found Check-in Baggage
- Or via the Air India website: Under Lost and Found Check-in Baggage
Once you’ve submitted the AirTag link and PIR number, Air India’s airport team will use the shared location to help find your bag—if it’s within airport premises.
To protect your privacy, location sharing automatically stops once the bag is returned or after seven days. You can also stop sharing manually at any time.
Built on existing features
This new addition works alongside Air India’s existing baggage tracking features. Once you check in and add your flight to the “My Trips” section of the app, you’ll automatically start receiving baggage status updates. You can also scan the barcode on your baggage receipt to track it manually.
