LGBTQ dating app, Grindr, vanishes from app stores in China
Gay dating app, Grindr, has been expunged from various Android app stores and Apple app stores in China. The app vanished from the Apple app store on the 27th of January whereas it is unknown when it disappeared from the Android app store.
In place of this, the Chinese government declared that it would stop other criminal activities like illegal content, pornography, and “ill-natured” activities online. Being homophilic is legal in China but spectators have noticed that the government policies have been extremely harsh towards them, and Beijing censors have taken issue with the gay themes in media. Same-sex marriage is illegal and LGBTQ remains a taboo.
Numerable apps have been removed from the app stores in China in recent years. Gaming apps are the most frequently removed apps, having thousands of been removed. An app names ‘popular Quran app’ also vanished last year.
Even though the Grindr app is one of the world’s well-known LGBTQ dating apps, it has been removed from the country. Although other local alternatives liked Blued is still available in the country.
