New Biometric Aadhaar Authentication and Document Verification for GST Registration Launched in 8 States/UTs, Including Chandigarh and Daman and Diu

On Wednesday, 28 August 2024, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) took to the social media platform X and updated about the rollout of biometric-based Aadhaar Authentication and Document Verification for New GST Registration. This authentication procedure also features a Slot Booking Facility.

According to the post on X, as of 24 August 2024, this facility has been rolled out in 8 States/Union Territories. The 8 States/Union Territories in which the facility is live, as of 24 August 2024, include Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Puducherry, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

The new Authentication and Document Verification facility is per Rule 8 of CGST Rules, 2017. GSTN aims to combat the havoc reigned by fake registrations and bogus billing through the Biometric Authentication and Document Verification process. Furthermore, this move will help prevent misuse of Aadhaar and PAN cards. Alongside, innocent citizens will be safeguarded from fraudulent elements.

The states in which the facility hasn’t been rolled out will soon be facilitated with the same.
