“Sign Learn” an Indian Sign Language Dictionary Mobile App was launched by the Government

The central government released “Sign Learn,” an ISL dictionary for smartphones, on Friday. Pratima Bhowmik, a minister of state for social justice and empowerment, gave a presentation on the app. The 10,000-word Indian Sign Language Dictionary created by the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center serves as the foundation of Sign Learn (ISLRTC).

The program, which is accessible on Android and iOS, enables users to look up any term in the ISL lexicon in either Hindi or English, according to officials.
The sign movies in the app can also be shared on social media.

Notably, on October 6, 2020, ISLRTC and the NCERT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the conversion of NCERT textbooks from classes 1 through 12 into Indian Sign Language (digital format), allowing children with hearing impairments access to the textbooks. “ISL e-content for class 6 NCERT textbooks was launched this year,” the official stated.

The Center published some “Veergatha” volumes from the National Book Trust’s “Veergatha” series in ISL as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. To introduce 500 academic words in Indian Sign Language, ISLRTC and NCERT worked together. The official went on to say that secondary schools use this academic terminology, which is often used in mathematics, physics, history, and political science.
