WhatsApp Channels are now available for Mac users also

WhatsApp Channels, launched on June 8, 2023, was initially available for Android and iOS users in select countries and was later expanded to India. It serves as a one-way broadcast tool, allowing admins to send text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. Channels can be found in the “Updates” tab on WhatsApp—where both Status updates and followed channels are displayed—separate from personal chats with family, friends, and communities.

Over time, WhatsApp expanded its Channels to more platforms, including WhatsApp Web and, most recently, Mac. We spotted the feature on one of our devices and have included a screenshot for reference. The initial announcement was made on WhatsApp’s official X account, stating: “Channels are now available on the WhatsApp Mac app. Stay up to date with your fave Channels without having to reach for your phone.”

This update is great for users who rely on Channels to receive updates from their favourite influencers, news agencies, and more. If you don’t see Channels yet, try updating WhatsApp on Mac to the latest version, 25.1.83. I also didn’t see the feature initially, but after updating, Channels appeared.

To update WhatsApp on Mac:

  1. Click the Apple icon at the top of your screen.
  2. Select App Store and click on Updates from the left-hand menu.
  3. If an update is available, click Update. Otherwise, search for “WhatsApp” in the App Store to check for the latest version.
