Australia Women Retain Ashes With 27-run ODI win over England
On Thursday, Australia retained the women’s Ashes with a win over England in the first one-day international of the multi-format series.
It took England three ODI victories to win the Ashes, but they lost by 27 runs in Canberra after being dismissed for 178 and needing 206 runs to win.
In the series, Australia leads 8-4 and cannot be beaten; each of the remaining two ODIs will earn two points for the winner.
The Australians have held the Ashes since the winter of 2013-14.
The only Twenty20 match between the two sides to be played was won by Australia. The one test match ended in a draw.
With two wins in the remaining ODIs, England can still draw the series.
The men’s Ashes were also won by Australia last month.
