Credit cards were stolen from online gun retailers in the United States

As per the news, it claims that Rainier Arms and Numrich Gun Parts, both e-commerce gun businesses in the United States, have acknowledged data breaches as a result of card scraper malware on their platforms. Credit card scrubbers are malicious JavaScript code that is inserted on websites or retrieved from a remote location by a harmless element like a favicon. Their goal is to steal credit card information from order checkout pages. Credit card information, expiration dates, CVV codes, customer names, phone numbers, and addresses are all that are needed to make unlawful online purchases by the operators of these scanners.

According to the sources, as early as December 2021, Ranier Arms, which operates on rainierarms.com, began getting allegations of illegal payment card transactions on its customers’ cards. The company discovered the illegal card-stealing malware on its site on April 21, 2022, and concluded that it was actively capturing payment credentials between June 1, 2021, and January 19, 2022, after investigating. Anyone who made online orders during those dates should assume their credit card information to have been hacked and contact their bank for a replacement card. Rainier Arms mailed 46,319 notices to affected consumers, a copy of which can be viewed on Montana’s Attorney General’s internet portal.

As per the sources, we also came to know that the Numrich Gun Parts Corporation, whose webpage is gunpartscorp.com, experienced a similar security compromise on March 28, 2022, which is uncovered. Payment data submitted on the site between January 23, 2022, and April 5, 2022, was seized by an unknown actor, according to the inquiry. According to a notification filed with the Maine Attorney General’s Office, 45,169 customers are affected, with all of them receiving a data breach warning in the coming days.

Furthermore, having your credit or debit card data stolen is a significant threat to your financial stability since threat actors can use your balance to make illicit purchases, but that’s not the whole story in this situation. Identifying significant firearms transactions could place customers in the crosshairs of criminals on the search for valuable stashes, which is a delicate matter in and of itself. The situation can get even more appealing for criminals in the instance of Rainier Arms, which offers high-end tactical weapons.
