Elon Musk has a special take on the future Chinese population
China is accountable for one sixth of the world’s population, the country’s population has increased from 660 million to 1.4 billion over the past forty years. After a much long wait, the population is set to dip after the great famine of 1959 – 1961.
According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, China’s population grew from 1.41212 bn to just 1.41260 bn in 2021, which is a record low in the past decade.
With the reluctancy of having children due to the measures of Covid, it has surely contributed to the decrease in births. The total fertility rate of China was 2.6 in 1980s, 1.6 and 1.7 since 1994 and slipped to 1.3 in 2020 and only 1.15 in 2021.
This was happening amid the abundance of one child policy in 2016 and introducing a three child policy, backed up by tax and other incentives in the last year.
The decline in population will have a direct impact on the Chinese economy, over the next 75 years, the Chinese population will be roughly around 70 crore or something close to that.
