Elon Musk’s residence in Boca Chica, Texas disclosed
Elon Musk’s home in Boca Chica, Texas, has been revealed. After downsizing and pledging to ‘own no home,’ the billionaire’s ‘primary’ residence is a $50,000 rental property near the SpaceX Starbase.
Boca Chica was a peaceful retirement community before SpaceX bought up the majority of the properties and began launching massive rockets from its beachfront test facility two miles away in 2014.
Musk, who agreed to pay $44 billion for Twitter last month, has whitewashed the walls, planted new trees, and covered the entire roof in Tesla-made solar roof tiles.
His security detail lives next door, and the 1970s mansion is guarded by a dozen or so cameras, several of which are nestled high above the street in the tops of palm trees.
The three-time divorcee, who recently had his seventh and eighth children with on-again, off-again partner Grimes, has also built a SpaceX-inspired playhouse and swing in his backyard.
Musk will not have to deal with slow internet because his home has an antenna for Starlink, his satellite Wi-Fi company.
However, he will have to drive 20 miles to the nearest supermarket and have Cameron County truck in his drinking water once a week until SpaceX builds its proposed desalination plant.
Elon Musk’s ‘legal residence’ is 170 miles south of Austin, where Tesla is based. Until SpaceX moved in, the coastal idyll of Boca Chica was known for its wildlife and unspoiled beauty. The self-proclaimed ‘free speech absolutist’ has vowed to make Twitter less hostile to conservatives.
