ICC Awards: Fatima Sana becomes the first female player from Pakistan to win an ICC Award
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Pakistani bowler Fatima Sana the Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year for 2021, making her the first-ever Pakistani female to win the award.
In the meantime, two ICC Awards went to Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. Rizwan won the ICC T20I Cricketer of the year award, while the Pakistani captain won the ICC ODI Cricketer of the year award.
The most prestigious individual trophy in cricket was won by Pakistani players in various formats during a remarkable year. Pakistani fans have praised the players for winning global awards.
On Twitter, Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan’s very own former international cricketer, congratulated the winners.
The all-around efforts of Fatima Sana in 2021 impressed everyone. Her ability to take wickets as both a bowler and a batswoman contributed to Pakistan’s success in ODIs and T20Is.
In addition to performing in Bangladesh and the West Indies, Sana also travelled to South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies, where she delivered outstanding all-round performances. In 2021, Sana collected 24 wickets.
Mohammad Rizwan, who was also named to the ICC’s T20I Team of the Year, deservedly won the ICC T20 Player of the Year award.
During the last year, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper amassed 1,326 runs in only 29 matches, with an average of 73.66 and a strike rate of 134.89.
“Since another T20 World Cup is approaching next year, Pakistan will hope Rizwan continues in the same vein,” said the ICC.
Captain Babar Azam, who captained both the ODI and T20 ICC Teams of the Year, put the cherry on top of an outstanding 2021.
Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh, Janneman Malan of South Africa, and Paul Stirling of Ireland were all nominated for the ICC ODI Player of the Year award.
While Babar Azam played only six One-Day Internationals in 2021, he was an integral part of Pakistan’s success. In six games, he averaged 67.50 and scored 405 runs.
