Income Tax Department conducting a tax evasion investigation on a Chinese giant, Huawei
The Income Tax Department is conducting a tax invasion investigation on a Chinese telecom company, Huawei from Tuesday, February 16. Raids have been made in the Chinese giant’s premises in Delhi, Gurugram (Haryana) and Bengaluru (Karnataka) since Tuesday. The Income Tax Department has searched their financial documents and records in addition to their accounts during the raids as per the sources. The Income Tax Department has also seized some of its files in lieu of the tax evasion investigation.
In response to the investigation, the Chinese tech giant, Huawei stated, “We have been informed of the visit of Income Tax team to our office and also of their meeting with some personnel. Huawei is confident our operations in India are firmly compliant to all laws and regulations. We will approach related Government departments for more information and fully cooperate as per the rules and regulations and follow the right procedure.”
In 2021, the Income Tax Department had conducted a tax evasion investigation on two Chinese tech giants including Xiaomi and Oppo along with their linked persons. Over Rs 6500 crore were alleged to be accumulated through violation of tax laws. Meanwhile, the Indian government is pursuing a strict course against Chinese apps and companies. Recently, the Indian government has put a fresh ban against 54 Chinese apps. These apps were alleged for transferring personal information to nations like China.
