IND V/S SA Day 3 3rd test: India will lose the series against South Africa
Rishabh Pant scored a brilliant hundred and remained unbeaten on 100 as India were bowled out on 198 in the second innings of the Cape Town Test, setting the hosts a 212-run target to win. The second session saw Lungi Ngidi taking wickets at quick intervals to bring the Proteas back in the game, as the Indian tail gave in cheaply. Only Pant (100*), Virat Kohli (29) and KL Rahul (10) were able to score above single figures in the Indian batting scorecard in the second innings. For South Africa, Marco Jansen was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi picked three each.
The umpires called for tea break at the fall of the last Indian wicket. Struggling Cheteshwar Pujara (9) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) failed yet again while Virat Kohli (29 off 143 balls) did his best to stay at the crease as long as possible before Ngidi dismissed the skipper.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami opened with a six-over burst, followed by Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur. Keegan Petersen and Dean Elgar continue to support South Africa.
A review saves Dean Elgar (22*) from being ruled out because of a LBW call. Elgar was caught in front by R Ashwin, and it looked like it was out. However, ball-tracking indicates otherwise. The trajectory indicates that the ball is going over the stumps. The team is in disbelief.
Kohli says on the stump mic shortly after the overturned decision on Elgar’s dismissal: “Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball, not just the opposition.”
Moments after, Ashwin sarcastically comments that supersports should find better ways to win.
Petersen is on his way to a half-century and SA has crossed the 100-run mark. It looks like with the support of the country South Africa will win the series as it is shown, the whole country against 11 cricketers.
