Indian government agency has been accused of leaking farmer’s Aadhaar details
A Indian government website was revealing the Aadhaar numbers of the farmers in India publicly. Consequently, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi website was found exposing the farmer’s details.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan is a government agency which is better known as an Indian government initiative for farmers. Consequently, this government agency aims at giving every farmer their financial income in India.
However, the agency’s website stated that it was returning the farmer’s Aadhaar numbers, which farmers have to give to receive the financial income. It has been expected that a malicious attacker could have gathered the farmer’s personal details.
PM Kisan initiative was announced by Piyush Goyal in the year 2019’s Interim Union Budget of India. Consequently, the scheme costs ₹75,000 crore per annum and was started in December 2019.
Initially, in 2017, a report stated that around 130 million Aadhaar numbers and the banking details were exposed by some websites. Also in 2018, it was found that Aadhaar details was for sale by hackers who were selling access to the database.
