Boston Dynamics releases a new video of their next generation humanoid robot, Atlas; Robot can be seen walking, running, somersaulting and more

Boston Dynamics- a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group is currently working on its humanoid robot, Atlas last year. The company has been releasing various videos in the past to showcase the progress of this robot where Atlas was seen in motion performing various tasks that demonstrated several new robot capabilities working together.

Well, the company has once released a new video on its YouTube channel where Atlas is not doing any task but instead showcases various movements of the humanoid robot.

In the above video, Atlas is seen walking, running, walking on all fours like an animal, somersaulting, rolling over on its shoulder, flipping its body around a single arm and leg, and also breakdancing. Boston Dynamics is using Atlas to explore the potential of the humanoid form factor, leveraging the robot’s whole body to move with race, speed, and dexterity. Through motion capture and remote control, the company has collected human physical behavior data, and reinforcement learning enabled Atlas to perform physical actions similar to humans.

Atlas is a 1.5-meter-tall robot with 28 hydraulically actuated joints that weigh 89 kg. It possesses outstanding speed, dynamic balance, and a certain confidence and fluidity of motion, in addition to some athletic qualities most of us would find difficult to duplicate.

Atlas is expected to be trialed in the actual production process at Hyundai Motor Group’s complete vehicle factory by the end of this year. Stay tuned for all the updates.
